A day in the Life:
Trains on routine operation, maintenance, and theory of complex analytical instrumentation, SOPs, and regulatory procedures and guidelines.
Independently performs and gives guidance on a variety of routine to complex sample preparation and analysis procedures to quantitatively measure pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations and/or biological matrices for stability and analytical testing.
Completes all laboratory documentation in clear and accurate language and according to SOP and GLPs.
Independently troubleshoots equipment & instruments. Mentors’ others in troubleshooting when applicable.
Reviews and compiles results from assignments and makes initial determination on acceptability per SOP acceptance criteria. Navigates the OOS/OOT/Atypical investigation process. Leads investigations and Root Cause Analysis and proposes CAPAs.
Performs work assignments accurately, and in a timely and safe manner.
Independently manages QC responsibilities. Communicates project status to project leader and helps to identify gaps and anticipates roadblocks in project team workflow.
Coordinates laboratory activities of other team members in conjunction with the lab supervisor.
Assists with the study design & protocol authoring. Leads data evaluation and study close-out.
Independently completes QA facing tasks. Authors and leads more complex quality records (eg. quality records which may require more in-depth investigation to identify true root causes, quality records requiring cross-departmental input and/or collation of data etc.

This position will be based at our new bioanalytical laboratory in GoCo Health Innovation City which is due to open later this year. This lab will serve pharmaceutical and biotech customers with advanced laboratory services and leading-edge instrumentation across all phases of pharmaceutical development to help deliver life-changing medicines to patients worldwide and will provide comprehensive and full-service solutions, encompassing both small and large molecules, biomarkers and novel modalities.

The Automation Specialist III independently performs a variety of complex activities in support of automated instrumentation. Conducts activities following company SOPs and policies, while also adhering to automation best practices with independence. Develops and supports initiatives to increase efficiency
and productivity of the laboratory
A day in the Life:
Develops and validates scripts/methods. Understands and conforms to methods, and protocols applicable to assigned tasks.
Develops liquid classes for liquid handling workstations and trains others to perform liquid class testing.
Maintains existing liquid handling workstations through preventative maintenance and complex remedial maintenance (e.g., complex hardware replacements)
Implements new scripts/methods through developmental testing without supervision.
Supports new hires and trainees in executing scripts/methods.
Participates in validation projects and, with minimal supervision, conducts validation experiments. May serve as a Principal Investigator
Uses advanced troubleshooting skills (hardware and/or software) to solve complex problems
Program scripts with high complexity in support of maintenance activities and/or assay methods on automated instrumentation
Posseses excellent documentation skills and adheres to relevant SOPs and laboratory automation best practices. Trains others on documentation and SOPs/laboratory automation best practicies.
Performs programming and/or process mapping for fully automated workflows
Designs and implements data integrity processes
Provides team coaching/mentorship



Keys to Success:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification eg Science, Computer Science, Engineering
4+ years experience in lab automation that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Direct experience with automation instrumentation required; Vendor Service Certification Preferred
Experience with programming (Hamilton Venus, TECAN EVOware or Fluent Control, Thermo Momentum, VB, Python, etc.) required; vendor programming certification (or equivalent) preferred
Ability to operate and troubleshoot a wide variety of analytical instrumentation and data acquisition systems
Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and work in a team
Proven understanding of GxP requirements, SOPs, ICH guidelines, USP requirements and FDA
Proven troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
Proficient in complex automated platform software use and programming
Proven ability to train other automation staff for programming, liquid class testing, labware testing, etc.
Knowledge of data generation and statistical programs
Knowledge of general chemistry, separation science, immunochemistry, molecular genomics, biomarker, and/or vaccine science related concepts and/or technologies (as applicable) systems
Technical writing skills
Effective communication (written and oral) and organizational skills

A day in the Life:
Performs a variety of complex sample preparation and analysis procedures
Works with multiple functional groups to meet business needs
Plans and organizes work with periodic supervision
Sets up and maintains analytical instrumentation
Trains on routine operation, maintenance and theory of analytical instrumentation, SOPs, and regulatory procedures and guidelines
Ensures QA findings are addressed appropriately
Communicates project status to project leaders
Provides assistance and training to other team members
Performs work assignments accurately, and in a timely and safe manner
Reviews, interprets, and analyzes data for technical, quality and compliance to protocols, methods, SOPs, client criteria and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)

Education
Bachelor's degree in lab sciences such as biology, biochemistry, immunology, chemistry, molecular biology or similar

Experience
Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 5+ years') or equivalent combination of education, training, & experience.
OR Masters degree and previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable 3+ years)
OR PhD
Experience with cell based neutralising antibody assays would be ideal

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Support testing and analysis in the immunochemistry and vaccine department (run assays, prepare samples, lab documentation)
Manual dexterity (pipetting, operate lab equipment, etc.)
Experience with cell based assays, cell culturing, Elisa, Bioassay experience
Experience with plate based assays
Experience performing immunoassays, ELISA or similar testing
Follow lab safety guidelines and use appropriate aseptic techniques
Looking for someone who can be a Lab Leader, assist the Associate Group Leader, run samples and help organize projects.
Communicate effectively and follow detailed written and verbal instruction
Cooperate with coworkers within an organized team environment or work alone with supervision
