Position Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be part of our Engineering department, along with the other 70+ engineers working within embedded systems, system software as well as windows applications and web services.

About the position
As a Software Engineer you will belong to our Engineering department consisting of employees working with embedded systems, system software as well as windows applications and web services. We work according to Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and Scrum and are divided into several agile teams.


In this position, you will be part of our Automated Regression Test (ART) team which develops the infrastructure for automating testing of our products. Technologies used in the team are among others Python, Robot Framework, MongoDB, Git, Virtual Machines, and Linux. Today, the team consists of three engineers and is characterized by an entrepreneurial spirit where your ideas get heard.

The ART team mostly works with building and enabling CI/CD pipeline which supports Software Quality Assurance (SQA) engineers in different teams to make regression tests to our different products. We are looking for you
who are collaborative and communicative because this role is about problem solving across team boundaries, fusing our many products together into a quality assured solution for our customers. You are comfortable in working in an agile environment, taking on challenges with the team and improving ways of working.

You have an academic background in computer science/software engineering or equivalent and can showcase thoughtful techniques?in software development from coding to testing and implementation. You have experience studying and/or working with databases (MongoDB preferably), Git and programming in Python (since this is the foundation of our test framework). Previous experience of working with Robot Framework, virtual machines, and Linux, are considered a merit.

Vi på Friday söker nu för kunds räkning en Embedded Software Engineer till ett svenskägt bolag som utvecklar och producerar säkra UAV:er av industriell kvalitet (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles). Som Embedded Software Engineer kommer du arbeta brett med att bygga nästa generation av industrielle drönare. Du kommer att delta i utvecklingsprojekt kopplat till detta, samt arbeta lösningsorienterat med resterande team - där det inte finns några större begränsningar, snarare en öppenhet till att forma rollen utefter intresse och bakgrund. Brief description about the Vehicle team

You will be part of our Vehicle team which develops robot controlling software and its features for our customers. A collaborative environment, high on energy and humor, where you feel supported.

Task:
We are building a new Web application for our Vehicle Controller product. This Web application will be used by customers for configuration and diagnostics of a truck. Your task will be to work together with the team in developing this new product mainly focused on front end, but the job might also include developing back end and automated testing.

The front end application is built with React and Typescript. The web app is served on our Vehicle Controller unit, which is running software on an embedded Linux based system. Back-end and testing is mostly done with Python.

What educations are applicable?

- We are looking for bachelor students who are in their second year (BSc) & master students (MSc) who studies year 3 or 4.
- You are studying Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar.

In addition, you are fluent in English both spoken and written.

Brief description about the Tools team
The Tools team (also known as team Purple) work with different applications that are used for designing, configuring, visualizing and troubleshooting our AGV Systems. The team is a cross-functional team consisting of UX-designers, content writers, developers, testers. We mainly work with desktop applications built with C# and .NET. We also have some application that have been built with C++. We work according to SAFe and Scrum.

Task



When designing our AGV systems, one important application is the Layout Designer. This is an application where you draw the routes that the AGVs use for navigation and where you also configure load and unload operations. We have just finished a new file format for our Layout Designer. We now need to build an application that can view and edit the contents of the layout files directly without using Layout Designer.

You will work on this task with support from the rest of the team. You will write code using C# and you will be working with our new file format that has been implemented using ite and Protobuf. You will take part in our scrum-process such as daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.

What educations are applicable?

- We are looking for bachelor students who are in their second year (BSc) & master students (MSc) who studies year 3 or 4.

- You are studying Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar.

In addition, you are fluent in English both spoken and written.

About the project
An Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) system is a fleet of mobile robots that automatically transport goods in a network of fixed virtual roads, designed according to the specification of the warehouse. This network must have the capacity to handle the intended traffic load without traffic jams, which is verified by running simulations. However, such simulations are time consuming, and since the design process is an iterative one, faster feedback directly translates to decreased cost. In this master thesis project, you will research how Machine Learning can be used to speed up the design process by predicting the consequences of different design choices.

Goal of the thesis
You will be given a labelled dataset with many variants of the same intersection, and your job is to develop and train a machine learning model that can predict how well each variant performs. For each variant, a simulation has been run which measures the throughput, i.e. the rate at which goods can be delivered, and this is what you will try to predict.

In the second phase of the project, you will generate new datasets for other kind of intersections. Here, the research question is whether the model can generalize to scenarios that were not in the training data.

By exploring this field of research, you will lay the foundation of new technology that will enable us to reach our goal to install more AGV systems faster


Method
The task is a form of supervised learning, and you will identify and evaluate a range of different models. Relevant metrics such as precision and recall should be calculated for each model, and you shall also explore how the choice of hyperparameters affect convergence, accuracy, and robustness. Roughly, the work will be carried out as follows

- Literature review to identify relevant models. One type of model we want you to study in particular is Convolutional Graph Networks
- Implement and train relevant models on existing data set using python libraries such as numpy, pandas, matplotlib and pytorch.
- Compare the results from the different models and give recommendation on model selection
- Generate new dataset. You will be responsible to select suitable scenarios in dialogue with domain experts at Kollmorgen, and you will use various existing python scripts to generate synthetic data, including labeling. In other words, you will not have to annotate any data manually in this project.
- Repeat training and analysis on new dataset, including testing how well the models generalize to unseen scenarios

About you
This project will require a solid background in mathematics, statistics and programming, and we are therefore primarily looking for master students from the engineering programs, such as Computer Science, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics and similar.

However, if you are interested in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, know python (or similar) and are not afraid of eigenvalues, we think you can take on this project if you have the right mindset.

You will be part of our Vehicle team which develops robot controlling software and its features for our customers. A collaborative environment, high on energy and humor, where you feel supported.

Task:
We are building a new Web application for our Vehicle Controller product. This Web application will be used by customers for configuration and diagnostics of a truck. Your task will be to work together with the team in developing this new product mainly focused on front end, but the job might also include developing back end and automated testing.

The front end application is built with React and Typescript. The web app is served on our Vehicle Controller unit, which is running software on an embedded Linux based system. Back-end and testing is mostly done with Python.

Presence at the office will be required but of course with some flexibility. We want you to get to know the workplace/people and for us to get to know you!

What educations are applicable?

- We are looking for bachelor students who are in their second year (BSc) & master students (MSc) who studies year 3 or 4.
- You are studying Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar.

About the Data Science team:
In this internship, you will be supervised by the Data Science Team, which works with exploring how data can be leveraged to make our products more intelligent. The Data Science team is spearheading Kollmorgen's growth into analytics, predictive maintenance and machine learning. Our goal is to improve the performance of the AGV systems, and decrease the time and effort required to design, configure and install them. In order to explore new ideas and algorithms, we build and evaluate prototypes, in projects that typically span 2-3 months.

Task:
As part of Kollmorgen's growing Data Science team, you will be contributing to new data visualization features in an existing cloud-based web application. You will define, implement and test new ways of creating insights from the data generated by an AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) system. The project will be supervised by our Data Engineer and Data Scientist, but you are expected to produce code independently, for both front-end and back-end, as well as write unit tests to ensure correct behavior. Most of your focus will be on the front-end (React Redux) however, as much of the data will already be available, and you will cooperate with the UX Designers at the company to make the GUI intuitive and easy to use.

Presence at the office will be required but of course with some flexibility. We want you to get to know the workplace/people and for us to get to know you!

The role as a Software Engineer

As a software engineer, you will be instrumental in the development of software controlling OnDosis medical devices. About the position
As a Software Engineer you will be a part of our R&D department consisting of about 50 engineers working within embedded systems, system software as well as windows applications and web services. In this position, you will be a part of our Stationary Team, which today consists of 10 people - seven developers, one system architect and two software quality assurance engineers. The team works with our Fleet management system and you will solve problems and develop applications for transport flow control, traffic rule management and task allocation.

What a work day could look like
Every day starts with a daily scrum meeting together with the team. We go through the tasks we are working on and announce that help is needed if the task has unexpected obstacles or offer help if the task we are working on is going better than expected.

A part of the day usually involves helping customers and support understand the algorithms in our stationary system better. This can involve giving advice on how to design a system for better performance.

Usually, we have design discussions or reviews in the team where we dive deep into technical details and try to find solutions to complex problems. Once we have an idea formed, I go back to my desk and start working with the problem programmatically. Depending on where in the system I’m working I might write in C++ or C#, sometimes I will also work in C. I use Visual Studio as my IDE and I also make sure I reach the standard of unit test coverage the team has agreed on.

I usually create simulations with the new code which run in Jenkins. There we can easily monitor if a change had unforeseen consequences.

Our code is always peer reviewed and during the day I might do reviews of other people’s code and discuss their solutions with them.”
